1 in 4 Still Failing to Read With Phonics in England: Why We Built MyWordz® to Make the Code Visible "Stay away! Don't touch!"Those were the words Avery wanted on his sign. His words. His message.
That is why we created MyWordz®.It gives every child the tools to read, spell, and express themselves without guessing, memorising, or waiting for help. Word Mapping Mastery® becomes accessible to all children — including those in neurodiverse classrooms.
In England, 1 in 4 children leave primary school unable to read at the expected level after 7 years of phonics instruction. 1 in 5 still fail a basic phonics screening check after just 2 years of teaching.
This is not a child problem. This is a system problem.
MyWordz® makes the code visible.Over 20,000 words are already mapped with full speech and spelling support. “D/o/gg/ie/s” has now been added — thank you Avery.
If a child can say a word, the tech helps them spell it.If they can give the sounds for a word, the tech shows them how it is written. Clearly and instantly.
✅ No guessing✅ No memorising✅ No spelling rules✅ No waiting for adult help✅ Just confident, independent readers and spellers
This is not one-size-fits-all synthetic phonics delivery. This is Word Mapping Mastery®.
It is child-led, inclusive, and designed to close the gap for children who become instructional casualties. This often happens when they cannot hear or blend speech sounds, and are taught only a narrow set of GPCs. They are not shown how to decode or spell words beyond what has been explicitly taught in phonics lessons.
All children deserve the ability to read any word and spell the words they want to write — at the moment it matters to them. That happens outside of phonics lessons, and it is personal to each child.
Avery does not start school for over a year. He wants to make his own signs now. He should not have to wait.
